How to Enable Data Roaming for a Travel eSIM

Updated August 20, 2026 · 5 minute read

A travel eSIM connects to partner networks outside its home network. That is why the Data Roaming switch must be on for the travel line—even though the plan itself is prepaid.

Enabling roaming on a prepaid Tavi eSIM does not create roaming charges from Tavi. Keep data roaming off on your primary SIM if you want to avoid charges from your home carrier.

iPhone steps

  1. Open Settings → Cellular.
  2. Tap the line labelled Tavi or Travel.
  3. Turn on “Turn On This Line”.
  4. Open Data Roaming and switch it on.
  5. Return to Cellular Data and select the Tavi line.
  6. Turn off Allow Cellular Data Switching if you do not want the phone falling back to your primary SIM.

If data still does not work

Toggle Airplane Mode for 15 seconds, restart the phone, and allow several minutes for first registration. Confirm the correct line is selected for cellular data. If the phone shows signal but pages do not load, contact support with your destination, device model and order email.

Does slow speed mean roaming is off?

No. With roaming off, data normally fails entirely. Slow speed can instead reflect local coverage, congestion, the connected network, or a plan's fair-use rules.
